ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (10-4) picked up its 10th win of the 2018-19 season, rolling to a 9-0 win over SUNY Geneseo from the Gordon Field House on Tuesday afternoon. RIT has now won 10 dual matches for the second consecutive season.
The Tigers began the match by rolling to three doubles wins and did not drop a set in singles play, while winning a pair without giving up a game.
RIT's first doubles squad of
Anne Taylor (Beaver, PA/Beaver) and
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) rolled to an 8-1 win over Vanessa Lam-Tram and Natalia Krol, while
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) defeated Nina Lurie and Julianna Schulz, 8-2 at the second position. At third doubles,
Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) and
Annie Steinbrink (Upper Dublin, PA/Upper Dublin) earned an 8-4 win for the doubles sweep.
It was more of the same for RIT in singles play. Taylor blanked Krol in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, while
Kirsten Auble (Portland, OR/Sunset) did the same at sixth singles over Grace Klomp for her team-best 15th singles victory of the season. Zablonski equaled Auble with her 15th win in 2018-19, picking up a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Schulz at fourth singles.
Ying picked up a 6-4, 6-1 at first singles, while Ginster won 6-2, 6-2 at third singles and Casalnova clinched the shutout with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sam Montague at fifth singles for her 13th victory of the season.
The Tigers won all four matches against SUNYAC opponents this season, out-scoring them by a combined 35-1.
RIT is back in action on Saturday at Liberty League foe St. Lawrence in what will have postseason ramifications. The match is scheduled to take place at 12 p.m.
