Tough second half sinks women's lacrosse in loss at Clarkson

POTSDAM, NY -- The RIT (5-8, 3-5 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team was defeated 17-8 at Clarkson University (7-6, 3-3 Liberty League) in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon. Leading 7-5 at halftime, the Tigers were outscored 12-1 in the second half.

Shots were 31-22 in favor of Clarkson. The Tigers held a slight 24-23 ground ball edge. The Tigers won 10-of-17 draw controls, and went 15-of-19 on clearing attempts. Meghan Donahue (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) led RIT with three goals and Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) tallied two goals and an assist. Olivia Africa (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), Steph Darrell (East Norhtport, NY/St. Anthony's) and Krystyna Sterio (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) each tallied a goal. Paulina Goodermote (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) took the loss in net, making eight saves.

Sydney Roderick led Clarkson with four goals and four assists. Aubrey Borgesi tallied three goals. Jaid Baytos, Katie Sergeant and Natalie Farnett each tallied two goals. Samantha Gladd picked up the win in net, making seven saves.

RIT led early, taking a 3-0 lead on Donahue's second straight goals inside the first six minutes of the first half. After a Clarkson goal cut the lead to 3-1, the Tigers ran off three straight goals, increasing their lead to 6-1 on an Africa free position goal with 21:48 remaining. Sterio gave the Tigers a 7-2 lead on her goal with 15:45 to play in the half. Clarkson scored three goals to end the first half trailing 7-5.

Clarkson ran off 10 straight goals to begin the second half, taking a 15-7 lead on a Roderick goal with 6:25 to play in the second half. Fallone scored the Tigers lone goal of the second half with 5:18 to play and the Golden Knights tacked two late goals to make it a 17-8 final.

The loss drops RIT to sixth in the Liberty League standings, while Clarkson vaulted to fourth.

RIT returns to action on Wednesday, April 17 when the Tigers host the University of Rochester at 4 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
