Women's tennis defeats Liberty League rival Ithaca for ninth win of 2018-19

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (9-4, 3-2 Liberty League) rolled to a 6-3 victory over Liberty League foe Ithaca College (1-10, 1-4 Liberty League) from the Gordon Field House on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers inched closer to securing a Liberty League postseason berth with the win.
 
The Tigers opened the match by taking two of three doubles matches. RIT's second doubles duo of Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) rolled to an 8-2 win over Brianna Ruback and Alexandra Dyszewski. At third doubles, the team of Annie Steinbrink (Upper Dublin, PA/Upper Dublin) and Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) earned an 8-3 win over Chloe Levy and Shannon Wolfe.
 
The Bombers earned their first point of the match at first doubles, as Caroline Dunn and Kathryn Shaffer outlasted Anne Taylor (Beaver, PA/Beaver) and Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park), 8-7. Ithaca's duo won the tiebreaker by an 8-6 score to secure the point.
 
After Ithaca's Ruback earned a win at first singles to even the match at 2-2, Zablonski and Kirsten Auble (Portland, OR/Sunset) gave RIT a 4-2 lead. Auble defeated Ithaca's Wolfe at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-1, while Zablonski knocked off Rel Klein, 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles. Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) clinched the win for RIT by defeating Levy at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-1.
 
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) recorded RIT's sixth and final point with a stirring 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 win at third singles over Dyszewski.
 
RIT is back in action on Tuesday, April 16 with a home match versus SUNY Geneseo that gets underway at 4 p.m.
