Baseball suffers home loss to St. John Fisher in non-conference contest

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT baseball team (10-10) suffered a 14-5 home loss to St. John Fisher College (17-7) on Wednesday afternoon at chilly Tiger Stadium. The Cardinals have now won six straight games.
 
RIT jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) led off with a single and eventually came around to score on a fielder's choice by Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey). Daniel Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) singled and Patrick Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) walked, loading the bases with two outs. Jason Schulz (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) singled to center, driving in Blackall and Zeglen to make it 3-0 Tigers.
 
St. John Fisher would respond with 13 unanswered runs. The Cardinals scored four times in the second inning, four more times in the fourth, twice in the fifth, twice in the sixth and once in the seventh.
 
Fisher out-hit RIT, 16-8. The Cardinals used seven pitchers, while RIT used six.
 
Stephen Edgett gave Fisher the lead for good with a grand slam to left field in the top of the second inning. He would finish the day 3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and six runs batted in. Michael Beimel added three hits and scored twice, while Jack Kelleher drove in three runs. Ryan Brown and Thomas Pasquale had two hits and drove in two runs each.
 
Anthony Brophy picked up the win in relief for the Cardinals, firing two scoreless innings of relief. Jack Delaney, Dillan Wilkinson and Brandon Roberts each pitched a scoreless inning. Jim Dawson picked up the season, throwing the final three innings.
 
Schulz led the Tigers by going 2-for-3 in a pair of RBIs, while making his first start of the season at designated hitter. Blackall drove in two runs, while Waterman scored twice. Will Porter (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) recorded his first collegiate hit and scored his first run in the bottom of the ninth inning on an infield single by Tommy Amuso (Webster, NY/McQuaid).
 
Ben Clough (Tolland, CT/Tolland), Jack Leahey (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley), Trevor Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Liam Barry (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee), Bryce Jellinick (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Dennis Houlihan (Sugar Loaf, NY/Warwick Valley) all toed the rubber for RIT on Wednesday.
 
RIT returns to action on Saturday and Sunday with a pair of doubleheaders at Liberty League rival Clarkson University. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m., while Sunday's twin-bill starts at noon.
