ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (3-6, 1-4 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team was defeated 13-8 by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (5-2, 2-2 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from RIT's Turf Field Saturday afternoon. Rensselaer snapped an 8-8 tie by scoring the final five goals of the day.
Shots were 33-32 in favor of RIT, while the Tigers held a slight 11-9 ground ball advantage. The Tigers were 13-of-16 on clearing attempts, and went 0-for-11 on free position attempts.
Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) led RIT with three goals and four points.
McKenna Joint (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) tallied two goals and two assists, while
Meghan Donahue (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker),
Olivia Africa (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Krystyna Sterio (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) each tallied a goal and an assist.
Paulina Goodermote (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) took the loss in net for RIT, making 11 saves.
Maddy Aslansan led Rensselaer with four goals. Abbey Salvon, Lauren Guiry and Nora Molino each tallied two goals, while Aleena Milinksi got the win in net, making 17 saves.
Trailing 3-1 in the first half, RIT ran off three straight goals, taking a 4-3 lead on Joint's second straight tally with 9:12 to play. Guiry scored two straight for RPI, giving the Engineers a 5-4 lead on her goal with 7:09 remaining in the opening half. Sterio scored off an assist from Joint with 3:21 remaining, tying the score at 5-5.
The Engineers scored the first three goals of the second half, taking an 8-5 lead on a Molina goal at the 25:52 mark of the half. Fallone scored consecutive goals for the Tigers, cutting the RPI lead to 8-7 on her goal off an assist from Joint with 24:16 to play in regulation. RIT would tie the game on a goal by Africa with 18:10 to play.
The Engineers ended the game on a five-goal run to win 13-8. Goals from Torcellini, Michelle Bolger, Erin Goodwin, Aslansan and Salvon put the game out of reach for the Tigers. RIT had its chances in the second half, firing 13 shots on net, but Milinski came up big for RPI, making 10 of her 17 saves over the final 30 minutes of play.
RIT returns to action on Monday, April 1 when the Tigers play at SUNY Brockport at 4 p.m.
