ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (3-5) women's lacrosse team fell 13-12 in double overtime to SUNY Geneseo (4-3) in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field Wednesday afternoon. Geneseo's Mallory Max scored the game-winner with 2:35 remaining in the second overtime.
Shots were 31-26 in favor of Geneseo. The Tigers held a slight 34-31 ground ball advantage, while winning 10 draw controls.
Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) led the Tigers with four goals and five points, while
McKenna Joint (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) tallied two goals and an assist.
Meghan Donahue (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker),
Olivia Africa (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Steph Darrell (East Norhtport, NY/St. Anthony's) each tallied a goal and an assist.
Paulina Goodermote (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) took the loss in net, making 12 saves.
Nicole Voci led Geneseo with four goals and six points. Jacqui Thorsen and Hannah Marafioti each tallied two goals and two assists. Margaret Rosachi got the win in net, making six saves in the second half and overtime. Tess McFadden got the start in net for the Knights, making two saves in the first 30 minutes of action.
RIT scored the first three goals of the game, taking a 3-0 lead on Fallone's first goal of the game at the 25:34 mark of the opening half. Joint scored off a feed from Donahue at the 8:58 mark to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead.
Geneseo answered back, tying the score at 5-5 on Voci's goal off an assist from Meghan Henderson with 5:02 to play in the opening half. Joint tallied her second goal of the half with 35 seconds remaining to break the tie and give the Tigers a 6-5 lead heading to halftime.
Darrell converted a free position attempt early in the second half that gave the Tigers a 7-5 lead. Consecutive goals from Marafioti and Thorsen tied the game at 7-7. RIT responded with two straight goals, taking a 9-7 lead on Africa's goal with 18:55 to play in regulation.
Trailing 10-8, the Knights ran off four straight goals, taking a 12-10 lead on Thorsen's goal with 6:22 to play. The Tigers came storming back, tying the game at 12-12 on the second of Fallone's two late goals. She converted a free position attempt with 1:45 to play in regulation. Both teams had shots inside the final minute, but failed to convert, sending the game into overtime.
After a scoreless first three minutes, Max ran the length of the field and scored with 2:35 to play in the second three minutes to give the Knights the 13-12 win.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, March 30 when the Tigers host Liberty League rival, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 12 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
