LATHAM, NY - The RIT women's tennis team (6-3, 2-2 Liberty League) returned to action with a 7-2 win over Liberty League rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (6-6, 0-1 Liberty League) from Tri-City Fitness Center on Saturday.
RIT opened the match by winning two of three doubles matches. RIT's first doubles team of
Anne Taylor (Beaver, PA/Beaver) and
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) earned an 8-4 win over Sonya Khudyarov and Junvia Lyu. The second doubles duo of
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) rolled to an 8-1 victory over Sanvana Surapanemi and Nisha Rudamohan.
Taylor earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at second singles, while Ying won 6-4, 6-0 at the first position over Khudyakov.
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) rallied to defeat Lyu in three sets at third singles. Lyu won 6-0 in the opening set, before Ginster rallied to win the next two, 7-5 and 10-7.
Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) also picked up a win over Andrea Valencia at fifth singles.
RIT is right back in action on Tuesday, with a home match against Roberts Wesleyan College from the Gordon Field House that gets underway at 3 p.m.
