Women's lacrosse loses on the road at Union College

SCHENECTADY, NY -- The RIT (3-3, 1-2 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team was defeated 13-11 at Union College (2-1, 1-0 Liberty League) in Liberty League action Friday afternoon.

Shots were 28-22 in favor of Union. The Dutchwomen won the ground ball battle 20-14. The Tigers won 17-of-26 draw controls and went 3-of-5 on free position attempts. Krystyna Sterio (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) led RIT with a career-high five goals. Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and McKenna Joint (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) each scored two goals, while Steph Darrell (East Norhtport, NY/St. Anthony's) tallied a goal and handed out three assists. Paulina Goodemote got the start in net, making three saves in the first half. Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) took the loss, making three saves.

Kellie Cronin, Hannah Rosenberg, Lindsay Gerrato and Isabel Bush each scored two goals for the Dutchwomen. Ellen Taney got the win in net for Union, making eight saves.

Sterio gave the Tigers an early lead on her goal inside the first minute. Union answered with two straight goals, taking a 2-1 lead on Gerrato's first goal of the game. Fallone and Olivia Africa (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) scored two straight goals for RIT, giving the Tigers a 4-3 lead on Olivia Africa's (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) goal with 7:59 remaining. After a Sterio goal gave the Tigers a 5-4 lead late in the first half, Bush scored for Union with six seconds remaining that tied the score at 5-5.

Rosenberg gave the Duthwomen a 6-5 lead on her goal early in the second half. Fallone tied the score at 6-6 on her free position goal. Union ran off three straight goals, taking a 9-6 lead on a goal from Mallory Toolan with 19:05 to play.

Sterio broke the Union run with her goal off an assist from Darrell, cutting the Dutchwomen lead to 9-7. Union extended its lead to 10-7 on a goal from Emma Lowery. Trailing 12-9, Sterio scored with 7:02 remaining that cut the Union lead to 12-10. Gerrato gave Union a 13-10 lead, and Joint made it a 13-11 final on her goal with 2:06 to play.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, March 23 when the Tigers face Skidmore College at 2 p.m. in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
