ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's tennis team (1-1) dropped its first match of the season, opening the spring semester with a 9-0 loss to Division II Roberts Wesleyan College (3-2) from Midtown Athletic Club Friday night.
The Raiders swept all three doubles matches and took the six singles matches, all in straight sets.
RIT's second and third doubles teams battled hard in defeat. The second doubles duo of
Nick Lim (West Caldwell, NJ/West Caldwell) and
Jake Wolicki (Canton, MA/Canton) fell to Timothy Nacca and Matthew Forest, 8-4, while
Patrick Mathews (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and
Gabriel von Kessel (Sarasota, FL/Riverview) lost by the same score to Dennis Barlotta and Andrew Freeman.
In singles play,
Brennan Bull (Birmingham, MI/Birmingham Seaholm) put up a good battle at first singles, before falling to Guido Janssen, 6-2, 6-3.
David Trimmer (York, PA/Dallastown) fell by the same score at sixth singles.
RIT is right back in action at 11 a.m. on Sunday, opening up Liberty League play at Vassar College.
