ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's tennis team (2-2) earned a 6-3 victory over visiting Houghton College (1-3) from the Midtown Athletic Center on Saturday evening.
Spencer Lowitt (Syosset, NY/Syosset) and
Nick Lim (West Caldwell, NJ/West Caldwell) picked up wins in both singles and doubles play to lead the charge. Lowitt took down Zach Shilvock in a three-set thriller at second singles. Lowitt won the first set, 6-3 before dropping set two, 6-4. Lowitt rebounded to take the decisive set, 7-5. He also partnered with
Gabriel von Kessel (Sarasota, FL/Riverview) to defeat Ethan Yung and Ethan Baker at third doubles, 8-4.
Lim and
Patrick Mathews (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) knocked off Shilvock and Dylan Scherer of Houghton at second doubles, 8-2. Lim defeated Adam Funch at fourth singles, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.
Brennan Bull (Birmingham, MI/Birmingham Seaholm) rolled at first singles over Louis-Guillaume-Garcia in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, while
David Trimmer (York, PA/Dallastown) earned a win at sixth singles over Matthew Cicero, 6-1, 6-2.
RIT is back in action next Saturday with a home match against St. John Fisher from Midtown Athletic Center that gets underway at 5 p.m.
