Women's tennis rolls to 9-0 win over Houghton in Spring opener

Tigers have won all four matches by identical 9-0 scores in 2018-19

HOUGHTON, NY - The RIT women's tennis team improved to 4-0 in 2018-19 after recording a 9-0 shutout win over Houghton College (4-9) from the Kerr-Pegula Field House Tuesday afternoon. It was the spring opener for RIT.

RIT dominated throughout, dropping just three total games in doubles and three more in singles. The first doubles team of Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Anne Taylor (Beaver, PA/Beaver) rolled to an 8-0 win over Amanda Carl and Tori Noller, while RIT's second doubles duo of Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) knocked off Catie Moore and Alicia Cline, 8-1. Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) and Annie Steinbrink (Upper Dublin, PA/Upper Dublin) completed the doubles sweep, 8-2 over Madison Soth and Tessa Brown.

It was more of the same in singles play, as Ying (first singles), Casalnova (fifth singles) and Kirsten Auble (Portland, OR/Sunset) (sixth singles) recorded 6-0, 6-0 shutout wins, while Taylor (second singles), Ginster (third singles) and Zablonski (fourth singles) all surrendered just one game each in earning wins.

RIT has not dropped a single set in dual matches this season.
