POTSDAM, NY -- The RIT (12-6, 7-4 Liberty League) women's basketball team won its third straight game with a comfortable 72-48 victory at Clarkson University (6-12, 3-8 Liberty League) in Liberty League action Friday evening. With the win, the Tigers move into third place in the Liberty League standings.
RIT shot 53.4 percent from the floor on 31-of-58 shooting, including an impressive 7-of-9 performance in the second quarter. The Tigers made 4-of-11 from beyond the arc, and were 6-of-8 from the foul line.
Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) was one of two players to score 20 points, finishing with a game-high 23.
Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) tallied 20 points on 10-of-13 shooting form the floor to go along with a career-high seven steals.
Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) and
Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) each tallied eight points, while
Alyssa Juergens (Rochester, NY/Hilton) grabbed seven rebounds.
Molly Stewart led Clarkson with 15 points, while Carly Assimon and Kati Gotch each tallied eight points for the Golden Knights who shot 32.7 percent from the floor.
RIT jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. An Okada layup at the 4:46 mark gave the Tigers a 12-1 lead. Clarkson answered with a spurt, cutting the RIT lead to 15-11 on a layup by Maddie Pratt late in the quarter. Okada, who scored six points in the quarter, scored on the Tigers next possession to give RIT a 17-11 lead after 10 minutes.
The Tigers outscored the Golden Knights 17-11 in the second quarter to lead 34-22 lead at halftime. Wolfe led RIT with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, while Okada was 4-of-4 from the floor to finish with eight points. RIT shot 53.4 percent on 31-of-58 shooting.
RIT broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring Clarkson 28-15 to lead 62-37. The Tigers began the quarter on an 8-0 spurt, taking a 42-22 lead on a pair of Lynch free throws. The Tigers tallied 10 points in the fourth quarter to cruise home for the 24-point win.
The Tigers are outscoring their opponents 220-142 during the three-game winning streak, holding their opponents to 47.3 points per game.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. at St. Lawrence University.
