Taylor Baker (Toronto, Ontario/North Toronto Collegiate Institute) and sophomore defender
Madison Itagaki (Glenview, IL/Chicago Mission) each scored a goal, but it was host Penn State breaking a 1-1 tie with five-consecutive third-period goals on its way to a 6-2 victory over the Tigers, Saturday, in College Hockey America action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Penn State opened the scoring with 16:02 on the first-period clock.
- The Nittany Lions committed back-to-back tripping penalties later in the period, killing the first with 9:13 on the clock before committing another with 7:40 remaining in the first. The Tigers cashed in after Baker blasted a one-timer from the point off a feed from Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) at 7:03.
- Following a scoreless second period, Penn State scored three goals in the first five minutes of the third to build a 4-1 lead and scored two more in a 2:27 span to take a 6-1 lead with 4:23 on the clock.
- Itagaki scored a power-play tally with 1:29 left in regulation to close the scoring.
GAME NOTES
- Senior goalie Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) had 22 saves through the first two periods of play and was credited with two more before being pulled after Penn State's fourth goal.
- RIT finished the game with 14 shots while the Nittany Lions put 39 on net.
