ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore forward
Abby Davies (Ashton, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) scored the game-winning goal with 2:33 left in overtime to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over visiting Long Island University, Saturday.
Freshmen forwards
Jaymee Nolan (Dublin, Ontario/London Devilettes) and
Christa Stefanopoulos (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Dawson College) each notched a goal and an assist during the second period to bring RIT (5-10-2) back from a 2-0 first period deficit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- LIU struck first following a Tiger tripping penalty at 15:22. Freshman forward Megan Bouveur won a faceoff in the left faceoff circle that made its way back to freshman forward Molly Meyers for a scoring shot from the left boards at 15:16.
- The Sharks made it a 2-0 game at 12:40 after freshman defender Paula Bergstrom slid a pass to Meyers in the left faceoff circle for a scoring wrist shot inside the near post.
- Stefanopoulos started the comeback after scoring on a shot from the slot that trickled behind the Shark goalie at 18:12.
- Three minutes later, Nolan took a feed on the right wing from Stefanopoulos and broke on goal to deke a short back-hander through the LIU goalie's pads at 15:12.
- In overtime, Davies got a puck in the middle of the slot and ripped the game-winning wrist shot inside the right post off an assist from senior defender Logan Land (Turkey Point, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) for the deciding goal.
GAME NOTES
- RIT out-shot LIU, 59-20.
- Sharks' freshman goalie Kenzie Harmison totaled 38 saves (including 27 in the third period) after coming on for the final 28:29 of play.
- Tiger senior goalie Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) stopped all 17 shots she faced after coming in after LIU's second goal.
