Women's basketball loses 55-54 to No. 24 SUNY Geneseo

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (0-3) women's basketball team was defeated 55-54 by No. 24 SUNY Geneseo (3-0) in non-conference action from Clark Gymnasium Saturday evening. The Knights Lindsay Halpin drained a three-pointer with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Knights.

RIT shot 42.1 percent from the floor on 24-of-57 shooting. The Tigers made 4-of-17 from beyond the arc, and made 2-of-2 from the foul line. Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) led RIT with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Alyssa Juergens (Rochester, NY/Hilton) finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) led the Tigers with six assists to go along with seven points.

Natalie Alfieri led Geneseo with 16 points and nine rebounds. Kerrin Montgomery finished with 13 points for the Knights who shot 34.8 percent from the floor.

Trailing 36-31 at halftime, RIT began the second half with a 6-0 spurt, taking a 37-26 lead on Juergens jumper. Geneseo answered with a 6-0 mini-run of its own, taking a 42-37 lead on a  bucket from Montgomery. Juergens scored late in the quarter to cut the Knights lead to 46-41.

Geneseo took a 51-45 lead early in the fourth quarter on a layup from Lauren Romito. RIT answered with five straight points, cutting the Geneseo lead to 51-50 on a Megan Roy (Newbury, NH/Kearsarge Regional) jumper with 5:06 to play in regulation. Sarah Henretaa tied the score at 52-52 on her basket with 3:22 remaining. Halpin broke the tie with her 3-pointer with 2:15 to play.

RIT returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 21, when the Tigers begin play in the 2019 Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout. The Tigers will host Nazareth College at 8 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gymnasium. St. John Fisher and the University of Rochester will precede RIT's game at 6 p.m.
