ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior forward
Jordan Marchese (Mississauga, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) capped a three-goal third-period surge to lead the Tigers to a 4-3 comeback win over visiting Dartmouth, Friday afternoon.
RIT (4-6-1) trailed, 3-1, after two periods but scored three unanswered tallies in the final 20 minutes to earn its fourth victory in five outings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dartmouth opened the scoring after sophomore forward Sara McClanahan took a pass from freshman forward Currie Putrah and finished a left-wing rush at the 10:00 mark of the first period.
- RIT answered less than three minutes later after freshman forward Christa Stefanopoulos (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Dawson College) flipped a puck off the left boards toward the Dartmouth crease and freshman Emily Stemple (Saginaw, MI/Detroit Honeybaked) tipped a shot into the goal with 7:42 on the clock.
- The Big Green took a 2-1 lead into the second period after sophomore forward Gabby Billing rattled a shot from the right face-off circle off the cross bar and far post that deflected off McClanahan in front of the crease into the goal.
- Dartmouth made it a 3-1 game 20 seconds into the second period after freshman forward Celine Pietraszek cleaned up a short rebound in front during a left-wing rush.
- Following a Dartmouth holding penalty, sophomore Madison Itagaki (Glenview, IL/Chicago Mission) scored on a wrist shot from the left face-off circle to convert the ensuing power play opportunity with 16:12 on the clock.
- Less than five minutes later, senior defender Taylor Baker (Toronto, Ontario/North Toronto Collegiate Institute) fed sophomore forward Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario/Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) at center ice, who sprung freshman Rachel Goff (Naperville, IL/Chicago Mission) in the neutral zone for a breakaway. Goff got the best of the one-on-one opportunity, beating Big Green freshman goalie Hannah Humphreys with a wrist shot inside the right post at 11:29.
- RIT took the lead with 6:20 left in regulation. Humphreys came out of her crease to clear a loose puck but played it directly to Marchese at the left face-off dot. Marchese scored into the empty net for what proved to be the deciding tally.
