Women's hockey wins third straight game with road win at Syracuse University

SYRACUSE, NY -- The RIT (3-5-1, 1-2-0 CHA) women's hockey team won its third straight game with a 7-4 win at Syracuse University (1-10-0, 0-1-0 CHA) Friday evening.

Shots were 39-21 in favor of Syracuse. RIT was 1-for-5 with the man advantage, while the Orange were 0-for-2. The Tigers took two penalties for four minutes, while Syracuse took five penalties for 10 minutes.

Abbie Davies and Jaymee Nolan (Dublin, Ontario/London Devilettes) each scored twice for RIT, while Jordan Marchese (Mississauga, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) finished with a goal and two assists. Madison Farrand (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) tallied a goal and an assist, while Jessi O'Leary (Woodstock, New Brunswick/Notre Dame Hounds) picked up her third straight win in net for the Tigers, making 35 saves.

Savannah Rennie and Mae Batherson each tallied a goal and an assist for Syracuse, while Abby Moloughney had a pair of assists. Allison Small took the loss in net for the Orange, making 14 saves.

Trailing 1-0 after the first period, Farrand tied the score for RIT on her goal 1:42 into the second period. Davies gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead on her goal at 4:45 from Marchese, and Nolan made it 3-1 Tigers on her goal at 9:02 of the period.

Goals from Victoria Klimek and Rennie at 12:55 and 15:19 of the second tied the score at 3-3. Batherson gave the Orange a 4-3 lead 59 seconds into the third period.

RIT exploded for four straight goals, including two empty-net goals to make it a 7-4 final. Davies, Christa Stefanopoulos (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Dawson College), Marchese and Nolan each scored. It was Stefanopoulos' first collegiate goal.

RIT and Syracuse will battle again Saturday, Nov. 2 at 12 p.m. from the Gene Polisseni Center.
