SCHENECTADY, NY -- The No. 22 RIT (10-3-2, 5-1-1 Liberty League) women's soccer team tied Union College (7-6-1, 2-4-1 Liberty League) 3-3 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Christine Cataldo-Smith (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) recorded her first career hat-trick for the Tigers.
Shots were 18-13 in favor of Union, while the Tigers held a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Cataldo-Smith tallied three goals for the Tigers, while
Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) and
Mia White (Littleton, CO/Rocky Mountain Deaf School) each had an assist.
Alyssa Salls (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) made five saves in net for the Tigers. Bella Dworkin, Erin O'Shea and Linsey Giles each scored for Union, while Alison Sorkenn made seven saves in net for the Dutchwomen.
Cataldo-Smith gave RIT a 2-0 lead on her goals in the fourth and 50th minute. The fist coming off an assist from Saia and the second from White. Union came back with two straight goals, tying the game at 2-2 on O'Shea's goal in the 71st minute.
Cataldo-Smith scored her third of the game in the 81st minute to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead, but Giles tied the game at 3-3 on her goal in the 88th minute off an assist from Emma Schleimer.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 30, when the Tigers face Ithaca College at 3 p.m. in Ithaca, N.Y.
