ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (5-8-1, 3-4-0 Liberty League) men's soccer team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 1-0 win over Union College (9-6-0, 2-6-0 Liberty League) from RIT's Turf Field Saturday afternoon. The Tigers tallied the game-winner in the 41st minute off a corner kick.
Shots were 9-8 in favor of RIT, while each team took five corner kicks.
Jared Short (Grafton, WI/Cedarburg) scored the game's only goal off an assist from
Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton).
Spencer Raymond-Smith (Stow, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) picked up the win in net for the Tigers, making two saves. Trevor Krupp took the loss for the Dutchmen, making three saves.
The game remained scoreless until the 41st minute when the Tigers earned a corner kick. Garno swung in a service that Short was able to redirect past a diving Krupp for his fifth goal of the season. The Tigers defense clamped down in the second half, allowing just two Union shots on net.
With the win, RIT moves into sixth place in the Liberty League standings with nine points. The top six qualify for the Liberty League Tournament, which begins on Nov. 5.
