Women's soccer beats Liberty League rival St. Lawrence 2-0

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (8-3-0, 3-1-0 Liberty League) women's soccer team defeated St. Lawrence University (8-2-0, 3-1-0 Liberty League) 2-0 on Saturday afternoon from Tiger Stadium. With the win, the Tigers tie the Saints for second place in the Liberty League standings.

Shots were 11-9 in favor of St. Lawrence. The Tigers took four corner kicks to three for the Saints. Christine Cataldo-Smith (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) and Maggie Hoey (Charlotte, NC/Lincoln Charter School) each scored for RIT, while Alyssa Salls (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) picked up the win in net, making eight saves. Samantha Allen took the loss for the Saints, making one save.

RIT took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) sent a service in off a corner kick. Cataldo-Smith elevated above her defender and headed the ball into the corner for her tenth goal of the season. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the 28th minute on a Hoey goal. She fired a shot from 20-yard out that defelected off a St. Lawrence defender and into the net.

Salls came up big in the second half, making six saves in the half. Julia Mulhern broke in 1-v-1 on Salls in the 52nd minute. Salls came off her line and was able to deflect Mulhern's shot wide of the post and out of danger. She came up big again in the 67th minute, saving a shot from Olivia Goodwine, who broke in on Salls.

RIT, who has now won four straight games, return to action on Friday, Oct. 18, against Skidmore College at 4 p..m. on the grass at Tiger Stadium.
