ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (0-2-1) women's hockey team was defeated 4-1, by St. Cloud State University (1-2-0) Friday evening from the Gene Polisseni Center.
Shots were 39-23 in favor of the Huskies. The Tigers went 1-for-4 on the power play, while St. Cloud State was 0-for-2.
Abby Davies (Ashton, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) scored the RIT goal, while
Justine Larkin (Ottawa, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) and
Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) each had an assist.
Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) took the loss in net, making 35 saves.
Hallie Theodosopoulos tallied two goals for St. Cloud State, and Klara Hymlarova tallied a goal and had two assists. Emma Polusny picked up the win in net for the Huskies, making 22 save.
"We competed throughout the whole game," said the Bruce B. Bates Women's Hockey Coach
Chad Davis. "We made some mistakes, but there is a lot build off of. We need to rest and get ready for tomorrow."
St. Cloud led 2-0 after the first period on goals from Abby Thiessen and Theodosopoulos. Thiessen gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead on her goal at 11:22 of the period on assists from Laura Kluge and Jenniina Nylund. Theodosopoulos made it 2-0 St. Cloud State at 19:53 of the period with the assists going to Klara Hymlarova and Rachel Herzog.
The Huskies took a 3-0 lead early in the second period on a Hymlarova goal at 12:14 of the period. She intercepted an attempted clearing pass from the Tigers and beat Lanteigne.
RIT cut the lead to 3-1 on an Abbie Davies power play goal with one second remaining in the period. She tipped home a shot from
Justine Larkin (Ottawa, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) to make it a two-goal deficit.
Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) had the second assist on the play.
St. Cloud State added an empty-net goal in the third period from Theodosopoulos to make it a 3-1 final.
RIT and St. Cloud State will play again tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Gene Polisseni Center.
