ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team puts its four-game winning streak on the line, traveling to Robert Morris University for a pair of College Hockey America games from 84 Lumber Arena on Friday, Jan. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 26. Friday's game starts at 7:05 p.m., while Saturday's contest begins at 3:05 p.m.
The Tigers (9-10-4, 5-4-0 CHA) extended its winning streak to four games after rallying to defeat Mercyhurst, 4-2 on Friday night. Down 2-1 in the third period,
Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) and
Mallory Rushton (Amherst, Nova Scotia/New Hampton Prep) scored goals 36 seconds apart to give RIT the lead for good.
Kathryn Kennedy (Hamilton, Ontario/) added an empty-netter in the final minute.
Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) made 39 saves in the win, including all 23 shots she faced in the third period.
Logan Land (Turkey Point, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) also scored for the Tigers, who are 8-4-1 over their last 13 games.
Senior captain
Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) leads the team in scoring with 16 points on nine goals and seven assists in 23 games this season.
Brittney Gout (Caledon, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) has a team-best 11 assists and is second with 14 points, while Larson has five goals and 13 points. Lanteigne has played in all 23 games this season and leads the nation with 740 saves. She is also seventh nationally with a .939 save percentage and has a 2.12 goals against average.
Robert Morris (9-11-4, 7-2-1 CHA) split a pair of games at CHA foe Syracuse last weekend, falling 3-2 in overtime on Friday before rebounding to earn a 5-1 victory Saturday. Jaycee Gebhard leads the Colonials in scoring with 35 points on 15 goals and 20 assists. In goal, Lauren Bailey has played in 20 games, recording a 2.52 goals against average and an .899 save percentage.
Robert Morris leads the all-time series between the two schools, 19-10-3. The Colonials won both previous meetings this season at the Gene Polisseni Center on Nov. 2-3 by scores of 3-1 and 3-0.
Taylor Baker (Toronto, Ontario/North Toronto Collegiate Institute) scored RIT's lone goal in the 3-1 loss. Lanteigne made 77 saves on 81 shots in the two games.
The Colonials enter the weekend three points ahead of Mercyhurst for the lead in the CHA standings. RIT is tied for third with Syracuse in the CHA standings with 10 points.
