Men's basketball loses heartbreaker at home to St. Lawrence

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (3-12, 0-8 Liberty League) men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker to St. Lawrence University (10-5, 7-1 Liberty League) Friday evening, falling 55-54.  Riley Naclerio converted a four-point play with 25 seconds remaining in regulation, draining a 3-pointer and converting the foul shot to seal the win for the Saints.

RIT shot 34.5 percent from the floor on 19-of-55 shooting. The Tigers went 5-of-23 from beyond the arc, and made 11-of-18 from the foul line. Jaymee Rosser (Newark, NY/Newark) led the Tigers with 15 points, all in the second half. Curtis Nesbit (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge), Will Atkinson (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) and Matt Anderson (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) each scored seven points for the Tigers.

Ben Crawford led St. Lawrence with 12 points and nine rebounds. Brandon Arnold tallied 11 points while Naclerio finished with seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Saints who shot 32.3 percent from the floor.

RIT trailed 24-16 at halftime, and fell behind 29-16 early in the second half. The Tigers rallied, taking a 40-39 lead on a Cobey Adekanbi (Bloomfield, CT/Loomis Chafee) dunk with 5:47 to play in regulation. Nesbit drained a 3-pointer with 4:05 remaining to give the Tigers a 45-44 lead. A pair of Rosser free throws with 1:26 to play gave the Tigers their largest lead of the game at 51-46. Michael Young (Brookly, NY/Nazareth Regional) gave the Tigers a 54-51 lead on his free throw with 42 seconds remaining.

On the Saints next possession, Naclerio got the ball in the corner and fired a 3-pointer. He drained the bucket despite the RIT foul, and converted the free throw to give the Saints a 55-54 lead with 25 seconds remaining. RIT had a couple chances with time running out, but failed to convert.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, January 19 when the Tigers host Clarkson University at 2 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gymnasium.
