Men's soccer improves to 3-0 on the season with a 4-1 win over Keuka College

ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Jared Short (Grafton, WI/Cedarburg) scored a career-high three goals, and Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) handed out three assists as the RIT (3-0-0) men's soccer team defeated Keuka College (0-3-0) 4-1 in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field Wednesday evening.
 
Shots were 22-8 in favor of the Tigers, who held a 6-1 corner kick advantage. Will Sokol (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) improved to 3-0 on the season, making three saves. Ryan Velte took the loss in net for Keuka, making six saves.

Short scored his first in the 22nd minute off a free kick. Mark-Vincent Sansone (Hilton, NY/Aquinas Institute) sent in a ball that rattled around inside the Keuka penalty area before Short finished from in close to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

RIT made it 2-0 on Short's second goal of the game coming in the 57th minute. Simone sent in a free kick that Short was able to get to and drive home for his second of the game and a 2-0 RIT lead.

Less than a minute later, Short completed the natural hat-trick with his third goal of the game in the 58th minute. Simone and Sansone had the assists on the play. Simone's corner was shot by Sansone. The rebound came to Short who tipped a shot home for his first career hat-trick.

It was the first hat-trick by a RIT player since Dan Holowaty tallied three goals in a 4-0 win over Morrisville State on Sept. 7, 2011.

Seth Spurgeon tallied Keuka's lone goal in the 67th\ minute off an assist from Abdikarim Maalo. Dakota Kegler (Pavilion, NY/Pavilion) completed the scoring with his goal in the 72nd minute off an assist from Simone.

Simone has eight points in three games this season. RIT has won all seven meetings all-time against Keuka.
 
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 11 when the Tigers play at cross-town rival No. 9 University of Rochester in the 2018 Hillside Community Shield. That game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Fauver Stadium.
