ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's tennis team (2-0) earned its second consecutive shutout to start the 2018 season, rolling to a 9-0 victory over SUNY Cortland (2-6) at the Gordon Field House on Wednesday afternoon.
RIT opened the match by sweeping the three doubles matches, then completed the shutout by surrendering just 14 points in the six singles contests.
The number one doubles team of
Anne Taylor (Beaver, PA/Beaver) and
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) defeated Mia Hayes and Chloe Knapp, 8-5. RIT's second doubles duo of
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) picked up a decisive 8-1 victory over Isabelle Arrigo and Rachel Sullivan, while the third doubles combo of
Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) and
Annie Steinbrink (Upper Dublin, PA/Upper Dublin) took down Cortland's Tina Wertman and Cassie Special, 8-4.
RIT put the pedal down in singles play. Ginster blanked Arrigo, 6-0, 6-0 in the third position, while Zablonski stayed unbeaten at fourth singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Sullivan.
Anne Taylor (Beaver, PA/Beaver) secured a 6-1, 6-1 win at second singles, while Ying took down Knapp at the top spot, 6-3, 6-0. At sixth singles,
Kirsten Auble (Portland, OR/Sunset) recorded an impressive 6-0, 6-1 over Olivia Terry, while Casalnova secured RIT's shutout with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Special.
The Tigers opened the season with a 9-0 win over The College at Brockport on Sept. 1.
RIT wraps up the abbreviated fall schedule with a pair of home matches on Sunday, Sept. 30. RIT takes on St. John Fisher College at noon and Nazareth College at 5 p.m.
