Men's soccer loses heartbreaker in overtime to Liberty League rival Hobart

ROCHESTER, NY – Hobart College (2-4-2, 1-0-1 Liberty League) forward Tom Cornell Roberts scored in the 91st minute to give the Statesmen a 1-0 win over the RIT men's soccer team (4-3-1, 0-2-0 Liberty League) in Liberty League action Wednesday afternoon from RIT's Turf Field.

Cornell Roberts scored first time off a service from Pete Critchlow just 40 seconds into the first overtime period to give the Statesmen the win.

Shots were 10-8 in favor of RIT, while the Statesmen held a 6-4 shots on goal advantage. The Statesmen took eight corner kicks, to seven for the Tigers. Will Sokol (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) took the loss in net for RIT, making five saves. Alec Kaminer got the win for Hobart, making four saves.

The Tigers generated some good scoring chances in the first half. Jared Short (Grafton, WI/Cedarburg) had a chance in the 17th minute off corner kick from Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton). Short got a free run, and fired a header that just missed the post.

Garno and Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) worked a nice give-and-go in the 27th minute resulting in a shot from eight yards out by Garno that Kaminer made the diving save on. Kaminer also made a strong stop on a hard shot by Simone moments later.

Alec Jackson (Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown) had a chance in the 58th minute, but his shot from 15 yards out was just wide of the Hobart net.

The Tigers will look to snap its two-game losing skid Saturday, Sept. 29 at Clarkson University. Kick-off in Potsdam, N.Y. is 2 p.m.
