ROCHESTER, NY –The No. 15 RIT (4-2-0, 0-1-0 Liberty League) women's soccer team lost 2-0 to Vassar College (5-2-1, 1-0-0 Liberty League) in the Liberty League opener from Tiger Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Shots were 21-10 in favor of RIT, while corner kicks were even at four apiece. Skylar Herrera-Ross and Emma Tanner scored for the Brewers.
Ingrida Ivaska (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) took the loss in net for the Tigers, making three saves in 45 minutes of action.
Alyssa Salls (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) played the second half. Fiona Walsh got the win for Vassar, making four saves.
Danielle Losquadro (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) had the Tigers best first half scoring chance in the 15th minute.
Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) sent a service into the Vassar penalty area. Losquadro, who was unmarked, fired a header on target that Walsh saved to keep the game scoreless.
Vassar opened the scoring with a goal in the 19th minute from Herrera-Ross. Ashley Ferry fed Herrea-Ross, who was making the run to the back post, with a through-ball. Herrera-Ross shot first time and scored to give the Brewers a 1-0 advantage.
Thiel had a shot from distance in the closing seconds of the first half that Walsh stopped.
RIT generated some chances early in the second half.
Lauren Chester (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) fed
Marla Roberts (Penfield, NY/Home Schooled) inside Vassar's penalty area. Roberts couldn't get the ball out of her feet allowing Vassar to clear.
Jenna Valleriano (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) fired a shot off the clearance, which was blocked away by a Brewers defender.
Valleriano had another chance with a little over 15 minutes remaining in regulation when she fired a shot from 18 yards out that just missed the crossbar.
Vassar put the game away with a goal in the 77th minute. Savannah Cutler fed Emma Tanner with a ball over the top. Tanner was in all alone on Salls, scoring with a shot into the top-left corner to make it a 2-0 final.
Prior to the game, the Tigers honored RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). One of nine colleges at RIT, NTID recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and features over 30 RIT student-athletes.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 26 when the Tigers face No. 5 William Smith College at 4 p.m. in Geneva, N.Y.
