POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- The RIT (4-2-1, 0-1-0 Liberty League) men's soccer team lost 1-0 at Vassar College (5-2-0, 1-0-0 Liberty League) in the Liberty League opener Saturday afternoon. The Brewers tallied in the 36th minute and held RIT scoreless for the first time this season.
Shots were 25-4 in favor of the Brewers, while Vassar took five corner kicks to two for the Tigers.
Will Sokol (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) took the loss in net for the Tigers, despite making a career-high nine saves, including several from close range to keep the game 1-0 in the second half. Will Marment got the win for Vassar, making one save.
Vassar broke through, tallying the lone goal of the game in the 36th minute from Alec Yeaney. Mattie Mrlik fired a cross into the RIT area that Yeaney fired into the net for his first goal of the season.
The Tigers mustered just one shot on target, that coming in the first half off the foot of
Nate Verso (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area).
Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton),
Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and
Jared Short (Grafton, WI/Cedarburg) also had shot attempts.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 26 when RIT hosts Liberty League rival Hobart College at 4 p.m. on the field at Tiger Stadium.
