ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman
Harley Wilson (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) of the RIT women's track and field team was named 2018 Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year, as the conference announced its postseason awards on Friday, June 1.
Wilson enjoyed a tremendous outdoor season, becoming the first freshman in RIT women's track and field program history to earn All-American honors by finishing sixth overall in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by University of Wisconsin La Crosse on Saturday, May 26.
On May 26, Wilson lowered her own school record for the fourth consecutive race, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:00.94 to place sixth overall after recording the third fastest time in the preliminaries two days earlier. She won six of nine races in the 400-meter hurdles. Wilson was the 2018 Liberty League and All-Atlantic Region Champion in the event. In addition, Wilson was also part of the 4 x 400-meter relay team that shattered a school mark at the All-Atlantic Region Championships, crossing the finish line in a time of 3:59.07.
Wilson became the fifth different RIT women's track and field standout in program history to earn All-American honors. She is RIT's first All-American since RIT Sports Hall of Famer Allison Griggs in 2006. Wilson also earned All-Atlantic Region honors and was a four-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week in 2017-18.
