ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (8-4, 2-3 Liberty League) had its three-match winning streak snapped, falling to Liberty League foe Vassar College (10-3, 4-0 Liberty League), 9-0 at Midtown Athletic Club Saturday afternoon.
The Brewers opened the match by winning all three doubles matches, taking a 3-0 lead into singles play.
Vassar would earn the shutout win, despite two three-set thrillers.
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Tara Edwards waged a strong battle at second singles. Edwards took the first set, 6-4, before Ginster evened the match with a 6-2 win in set two. Edwards would take the match by winning the third and decisive set, 6-3.
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Morgane Flournoy also went the distance at fourth singles. Flournoy won the first set, 6-3 before Zablonski responded by winning the second set by the same score. Flournoy would won the third set and take the match, 6-4.
RIT is right back in action on Tuesday, with a home match against University of Rochester that begins at 4 p.m.
