ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (8-5) fell to crosstown foe University of Rochester (5-7) by a score of 6-3 from the Gordon Field House on Tuesday afternoon.
RIT opened the match with a win at first doubles, as
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) rolled to an 8-1 win over Camila Garcia and Yaya Wang. Rochester would respond by winning the final two doubles matches to lead 2-1 heading into singles play.
After Rochester took a 3-1 lead after a win at second singles, Ying would get RIT back into the match, defeating Garcia 6-1, 7-5. Down 4-2,
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) would draw the Tigers back within one, 4-3 after a 6-3, 7-6 over Abbey Reinhart of Rochester at fourth singles. The win was Zablonski's 17th of the season.
Rochester would halt a RIT comeback however, with wins by Wang and Bianca Dyer at fifth and sixth singles.
The Tigers are back in action on Thursday, April 19 with a road contest against SUNY Geneseo that gets underway at 4 p.m.
