ITHACA, NY – The RIT baseball team (14-11) won on the road for the second straight day, earning a 6-3 win over Ithaca College (20-14) through the rain at Freeman Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers broke the game open with four runs in the top of the third inning, the big hit coming off the bat of
Daniel Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville), who launched a three-run home run to left field for his fifth round-tripper of the season, which gave RIT a 5-1 lead.
Zeglen was also strong on the mound, scattering three hits and a pair of runs with four strikeouts over five innings for his second win in six days.
Michael Campbell (Honeoye Falls, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) came on in relief and gave the Tigers 1 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and a run with two strkeouts.
Brett Bouchard (Fairport, NY/Fairport) got a big out with two runners on to end the seventh inning and closed out the bombers, retiring all seven batters he faced with three strikeouts for his third save of the season and 10th of his career.
RIT out-hit Ithaca, 9-5 and also drew seven walks.
Jason Schulz (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool),
Benjamin Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and
Joey Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) reached base three times apiece. Terzini also drove in a pair of runs.
Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) was also 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
The Tigers scored all six runs off of Ithaca starter Jack Morello. Relievers Chris Marinaccio and Matt Eiel combined to throw 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Five different Bombers had a hit.
RIT is scheduled to be right back in action on Sunday with a non-league doubleheader at The College at Brockport. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
