ELMIRA, NY – The RIT baseball team (13-11) scored six unanswered runs to rally from an early deficit and knock off host Elmira College (4-25), 6-2 from Dunn Field Friday evening.
Jason Schulz (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) went 3-for-5 and finished a double shy of the cycle. He homered, tripled, singled, drove in two runs and stole a pair of bases.
Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) also homered and drove in a pair of runs, while
Dom Scialabba (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) walked three times and scored two runs.
Benjamin Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was 2-for-5 with a run batted in.
Three RIT pitchers combined to strike out 15 Elmira batters.
Jameson Moran (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo) started, allowing both Elmira runs, while striking out five batters over the first two innings.
Nick Claver (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) came on in relief and did an incredible job shutting down the Elmira offense, retiring 18 of the 19 batters he faced over six innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out a career-high eight batters to earn his first win of the season.
Michael Campbell (Honeoye Falls, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out a pair of batters.
Elmira would get on the board first in the bottom of the second inning, as Cameron Heggie singled in a pair of runs with the bases loaded to take a 2-0 lead.
RIT's offense would get going in the fourth inning, tying the game with a pair of runs. Scialabba led off with a walk and Capra launched a home run down the right field line to tie the game at 2-2. In the fifth,
Joey Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) would single, steal second, move to third on a wild pitch and score on a triple by Schulz. Terzini would drive in Schulz with an infield single to make it 4-2 Tigers.
RIT would score an unearned run in the seventh inning and in the ninth, Schulz would complete the scoring by slamming a solo home run to right field.
The Tigers are right back in action on Saturday afternoon with a road contest at Ithaca College that gets underway at 2:30 p.m.
