Women's lacrosse loses at Nazareth in 17-15 shootout

PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT (7-9) women's lacrosse team lost a shootout at Nazareth College (10-5) by a score of 17-15 on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers allowed six straight goals in the second half and had a late comeback fall just short.

Shots were 36-35 in favor of Nazareth. The Golden Flyers held a 19-17 ground ball edge, and the Tigers won 17 draw controls. RIT went 16-of-18 on clearing attempts and converted 4-of-14 free position attempts.

Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and Colette Rigas (Marietta, NY/Marcellus) each scored four goals. Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) tallied four goals and six points, while Kendall Jones (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) scored three goals. Maegan Schamuder led the Tigers with five ground balls, five draw controls and had three caused turnovers. Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) took the loss in net, making 13 saves.

Haley DeVona and Katie Carroll each scored five goals for the Golden Flyers, while Bridget Collins finished with four goals. Brianna Rizzari got the win in net, making 16 saves.

RIT scored the first two goals of the game, taking a 2-0 lead on Jones' goal off an assist from Livecchi at 26:28. Nazareth ran off four straight goals. Addilys Geitner tallied two straight to give the Golden Flyers a 4-2 lead at the 16 minute mark of the half.

Krystyna Sterio (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) broke the run with her goal off an assist from Livecchi with 15:06 remaining in the half to cut the score to 4-3. After a Collins goal made it 5-3, consecutive goals from Livecchi and Jones tied the game at 5-5 with 5:19 to play. The Golden Flyers answered with two straight, but the Tigers responded with a pair of goals, tying the score at 7-7 on a goal from Rigas with two minutes remaining. DeVona scored with 1:03 to play that gave the Golden Flyers an 8-7 halftime lead.

Fallone and Livecchi sandwiched goals between a Collins tally early in the second half, tying the score at 9-9 on Livecchi's goal at the 20:58 mark. Nazareth broke the game open with a six-goal run, taking a 15-9 lead on a goal by Katie Carroll with 9:35 remaining. 

The Tigers answered back, scoring four straight goals that cut the Nazareth lead to 15-13 on Rigas' goal with 5:14 to play. Rigas scored two straight that cut the score to 15-11, and Fallone cut the lead to 15-12 on her goal off an assist from Livecchi. 

Carroll and DeVona scored late for the Golden Flyers, while Fallone and Steph Darrell (East Norhtport, NY/St. Anthony's) scored for RIT to make it a 17-15 final.  

RIT returns to action on Saturday, April 28 when the Tigers host No. 19 Ithaca College at 7 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field. The Tigers will honors its five members of the Class of 2018 as the appear in their final regular season home game.Â
