Women's lacrosse loses hard-fought battle to No. 19 Ithaca on Senior Night

Tigers will compete in the 2018 Liberty League Tournament as the No. 6 seed

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (7-10, 5-5 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team lost a hard-fought battle versus No. 19 Ithaca College (13-4, 9-1 Liberty League), falling to the Bombers 14-10 on Senior Night at RIT Saturday evening from the Turf Field. Despite the loss, RIT finished sixth in the Liberty League regular season standings, earning a trip to the conference tournament. It is the first postseason appearance for the Tigers since 2012.

Shots were 37-24 Ithaca, while the Bombers held a slight 29-23 ground ball advantage. The Tigers won 13-of-25 draw controls, went 14-of-22 on clears and 2-of-5 on free position attempts. Maegan Schmauder (Franklin, MA/Franklin) led RIT with three goals and four points. Colette Rigas (Marietta, NY/Marcellus) and Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) each scored two goals. Kendall Jones (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon), Steph Darrell (East Norhtport, NY/St. Anthony's) and Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) each had a goal and an assist for RIT. Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) took the loss in net, despite making 12 saves.

Elizabeth Rice led Ithaca with six goals. Allie Panara finished with a goal and four assists, while Erin McGee and Danika Wagener each had two goals. Kimberly Presuto picked up the win in net, making 10 saves.

RIT came out firing in the first half, scoring the first four goals. Darrell, Schmauder, Jones and Rigas each scored early in the game to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead. Ithaca answered with three unanswered goals, pulling to within 4-3 on Wagener's goal with 12:51 remaining in the half.

Goals from Schmauder and Livecchi gave the Tigers a 7-5 lead with 3:37 to play in the half. Maeve Cambria made it 7-6 with her goal at the 2:34 mark, but RIT scored with 10 seconds remaining in the half on a free position goal by RIgas.

The Bombers opened the second with two straight goals, pulling to within 8-7 on Jacqui Halleck's goal at the 24:23 mark. Fallone broke the Ithaca run with her goal with 21:41 to play to extend the RIT lead to 9-7. Ithaca ran off six straight goals, taking a 13-9 lead on McGee's goal with 6:42 remaining. Rice scored three of Ithaca's six goals in the run. Schmauder scored with 6:15 remaining to make it 13-10, but RIce added a goal with 1:52 to play to make it a 14-10 final.

Before the game, RIT honored Liz Bova (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee), Jordan Guerreri, Livecchi, Brooks Melnyk (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) and Schmauder, members of the Class of 2018.

RIT will face third-seed Skidmore College in the Liberty League Tournament Quarterfinal on Tuesday, May 1 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. RIT defeated Skidmore earlier in the season, 16-12 on March 24. Stay tuned to www.ritathletics.com for game time.
