ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT softball team (7-17, 3-7 Liberty League) split a doubleheader on balmy Monday afternoon from Tiger Stadium versus Liberty League rival St. Lawrence University (11-13, 3-5 Liberty League). St. Lawrence won game one, 9-1, while RIT rallied to take game, 5-4.
In game one, St. Lawrence's Mylea Mann made history, hitting a pair of grand slams to pace the Saints offense. She slammed a towering home run to left field with the bases loaded in the first inning and with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, hit an opposite field home run to right center field with the sacks packed. She was 3-for-4 with eight RBIs.
Madison Mitchell was tremendous on the mound for St. Lawrence, allowing four hits and one run, while striking out eight batters in 6 2/3 innings.
Erin Guinan (Geneva, NY/Geneva) was 2-for-3 in game one for RIT, while
Olivia Doret (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) drove in the lone RIT run.
In game two, St. Lawrence opened the scoring in the second game with a pair of unearned runs to take a 2-0 lead. RIT would respond with five unanswered runs, including a pair of two-run singles by
Danielle Hotz (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) in both the fourth and sixth innings to take a 5-2 lead into the top of the seventh inning.
St. Lawrence would mount a charge in the seventh inning, getting back into the game on a two-run double by Skylar Hein to make it a 5-4 game with one out. A walk and single later and the Saints had the bases loaded, primed to tie the game or regain the lead. Fortunately for RIT, a rocket off the bat of McKailey Lyndbaker that was headed for the right field corner was snagged by
Nicole O'Donnell (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North), right in front of first base. She dove back to tag the base and completed the unassisted double play to end the game.
Hotz was 3-for-4 with a career-high four RBIs to pace the Tigers. O'Donnell was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, while
Raquel Estrada (Middletown, NY/Middletown) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Melissa Gould (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) started on the mound, allowing a pair of unearned runs over 3 1/3 innings of work.
Torie Adler (West Chester, PA/B. Reed Henderson) came on in relief and would earn the win, scattering four hits and two runs over the final 3 2/3 innings.
