Box Score ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's tennis team (7-3) continued its winning ways, using a balanced team effort to defeat 2017 Empire 8 Champion Nazareth College (14-2), 7-2 at the Gordon Field House on Monday afternoon. RIT has now won five out of its last six matches.
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and
Annie Steinbrink (Upper Dublin, PA/Upper Dublin) each won a pair of matches to lead the RIT attack. Ying rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Maelah Nadeau at first singles and partnered with
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) to knock off Nadeau and Erin Schantz at first doubles, 8-2. Steinbrink continued her winning ways at fifth singles, 6-1. 6-1 over Aliana Burgos. Steinbrink and
Maddy Price (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) knocked off Allison Friends and Maeve Morgan, 8-3 at third singles.
Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland), the reigning RIT Female Athlete of the Week, picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at third singles, while classmate
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) defeated Marisa Joyce at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Julia Smolowitz (Marlborough, MA/Hudson) also earned a singles win at the sixth position, 6-2, 6-0 over Elana Alteri
The Tigers return to action with a conference contest against Liberty League rival Ithaca College on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
