TROY, NY – The RIT softball team (4-12, 1-3 Liberty League) dropped a pair of games at defending Liberty League Champion Rensselaer (17-7, 7-1 Liberty League) at Robison Field on Saturday by scores of 11-0 and 13-2, both in five innings.
In game one, Rensselaer scored eight unearned runs in the third inning. Maddie Provencher was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Cam Caswell and Rebecca Kienz also drove in two runs. Sarah Harms allowed one hit and walked one with six strikeouts in the five inning complete game win.
Erin Guinan (Geneva, NY/Geneva) had RIT's lone hit, a first inning double. The Tigers had runners on second and third with two outs in the opening inning but did not score.
Lauren Mahar (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) took the loss on the mound, allowing seven hits and eight unearned runs with four strikeouts in three innings.
Rensselaer scored three times in the first inning and after RIT cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the third inning, put the game away with eight runs in the bottom of the inning.
Kienz and Veronica DeStefano drove in three runs apiece for Rensselaer in game two. Jamie Cleasby picked up the win on the mound.
Danielle Hotz (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) was 2-for-2 with a run scored and RBI for the Tigers, while
Olivia Doret (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) was 2-for-3 with a RBI.
The Tigers are scheduled to be in action next on Tuesday, April 17 with a pair of home contests against Liberty League foe St. Lawrence University at 3 p.m. from Tiger Stadium. RIT is scheduled to play four consecutive home doubleheaders, all against Liberty League rivals next week.
