CANTON, NY – Fueled by a career-best effort from junior
Daniel Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville), the RIT baseball team (7-8, 4-5 Liberty League) defeated St. Lawrence University (2-16, 1-8 Liberty League) by a score of 10-1 from Tom Fay Field in game one of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. Game two was halted due to rain with the score tied at 5-5 in the top of the ninth inning. That game will be resumed when the two teams meet later in the season.
The RIT offense erupted for 10 runs and 13 hits in the opener. Zeglen had the first two-home run game of his collegiate career and RIT's first since Will Gorman hit a pair in the season-opener last year against Arcadia. Dom Scialabba (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning, his first of the season and second of his career.
Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) doubled, tripled and scored a run, while
Jason Schulz (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was 2-for-4 with a double.
Benjamin Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored once and drove in a run, while brother

Joey Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) scored twice.
Senior hurler

Kyle Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport) pitched a scoreless seventh inning in relief.
In game two, RIT jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead with two runs in the first inning and two more in the second inning. Zeglen slammed a two-run double in the first inning, while Scialabba doubled home a run and
Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
The Saints rallied and eventually tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning. With RIT set to bat in the ninth, the game was stopped due to heavy rain and unplayable field conditions.
Stevie Branche (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) earned the start on the mound and allowed five hits and three runs, with three strikeouts in four innings.
Brett Bouchard (Fairport, NY/Fairport) allowed three hits and two runs in four innings.
Evan O'Keeffe doubled three times in the first eight innings for the Saints.
St. Lawrence leads the all-time series between the two schools, 43-38. RIT has won the last eight meetings between the two schools dating back to the 2015 season.
The Tigers and Saints were supposed to play a second doubleheader Saturday, but have postponed due to weather. They will look to play a second doubleheader later in the season. RIT is back in action on Wednesday, April 18 with a home contest against Brockport from Tiger Stadium that gets underway at 4 p.m.
