ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (6-7, 4-4 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team fell 16-12 to University of Rochester (3-7, 3-4 Liberty League) in the cold and rain on Wednesday evening at RIT's Turf Field. Despite the loss, RIT remains in sixth place in the Liberty League standings.
Shots were 30-27 in favor of Rochester. The Tigers held a slight 26-25 ground ball edge, while the Yellowjackets won 18-of-30 draw controls. The Tigers went 16-of-19 on clearing attempts, while converting 5-of-10 on free position attempts.
Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led RIT with five goals and six points.
Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) tallied three goals, while
Colette Rigas (Marietta, NY/Marcellus) tallied two goals and two assists. Rigas, Fallone, Maddie Dillabaugh and
Savannah Clemens (Livonia, NY/Livonia) each caused two turnovers. Dillabuagh led the Tigers with six ground balls, while
Maegan Schmauder (Franklin, MA/Franklin) had five ground balls.
Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) took the loss in net for RIT, making three saves.
Madeline Levy led Rochester with four goals. Brigid Regan and Maggie McKenna each scored three goals, while Jamison Seabury and Madeline Mullholand each scored two goals. Conley Ernst got the win in net, making nine saves.
RIT led 8-6 at halftime. Trailing 5-3 in the first half, the Tigers ran off three straight goals, taking a 6-5 lead on Schmauder's goal off and assist from
Colette Rigas (Marietta, NY/Marcellus). Rigas began the run with a free position goal and Livecchi tied the score with her goal with 8:24 remaining.
After a Rochester goal made it 6-6, the Tigers scored the final two goals of the half to take a two-goal lead into halftime. Rigas and Fallone scored late for the Tigers.
Rochester opened the second half scoring on McKenna's goal in the first 45 seconds of the half. Livecchi converted a free position attempt to give the Tigers a 9-7 lead at the 28:10 mark of the second half.
Rochester took control of the game with a six-goal run in the second half, taking a 13-9 lead on Madeline Mulholland's with 15:50 remaining. Seabury, McKenna, Levy, Mary Panepento and Regan each scored in the run for the Yellowjackets. Livecchi broke the run with her goal with 13:42 remaining, cutting the Rochester lead to 13-10.
Goals from
Krystyna Sterio (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Fallone late in the game cut the Yellowjackets lead to 15-12 with just over two minutes left. Regan put the game away with her goal with 40 seconds remaining to make it a 16-12 final.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, April 14 when the Tigers host Clarkson University at 3 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
