Box Score HOUGHTON, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (5-2) won its third consecutive match, rolling to a 9-0 shutout victory over Houghton College (7-7) from the Kerr-Pegula Field House on Wednesday afternoon.
All three doubles teams for RIT won by identical 8-3 scores. RIT gave up just 13 singles points in the match.
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) earned the win at first doubles,
Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) and
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) won at second doubles, while
Maddy Price (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and
Annie Steinbrink (Upper Dublin, PA/Upper Dublin) picked up a victory in the third doubles position.
Ying needed just 29 minutes to shutout Laura Jacuzzo, 6-0, 6-0 at first singles. Ginster gave up just one point in her second singles victory, while Steinbrink gave up just two points in her win at fifth singles.
Casalnova earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at third singles, while Zablonski picked up her team-best 12th win of the season, 6-1, 6-3 over Amanda Carl at fourth singles.
Julia Smolowitz (Marlborough, MA/Hudson) improved to 9-3 in 2017-18 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Catie Moore at sixth singles.
RIT is off until Sunday, March 25, with a match against Roberts Wesleyan at 3 p.m. from the Midtown Athletic Club.
