SYRACUSE, NY -- The No. 1 RIT (3-0) men's lacrosse team defeated Springfield College (1-2) by a score 23-7 in non-conference action from The Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University. RIT scored 20 of the first 21 goals of the game en route to season-high totals of 23 goals and 42 points.
Shots were 50-38 in favor of RIT. The Tigers went 3-for-3 on man-up opportunities, 13-of-14 on clearing attempts, and won 23-of-34 face-offs. In all, 19 different Tigers had at least one point.
Shawn Nally (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) led the Tigers with a career-high six points on four goals and two assists.
Ryan Tandy (Montrose, NY/Hendrick-Hudson) and
Quinn Commandant (Rockwood, Ontario/The Kiski School) had four points apiece on three goals and an assist, while
Aidan Milburn (Vancouver, British Columbia/Sentinel Secondary) dished out four assists. Cam Issac had two goals and an assist,
Beau Riley (Homer, NY/Homer) tallied a goal and had two assists, while
Kyle Killen (Peterborough, Ontario/Crestwood Secondary),
Ryan Barnable (Whitby, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) were among the Tigers to score a pair of goals.
Brendan MacDonald (Georgetown, Ontario/Trinity-Pawling),
Chris Brown (Homer, NY/Homer),
Luke Smeltzer (Halifax, NS/The Gunnery), Jon Sicker,
Julien Guay (Oakville, Ontario/The Hill Academy) Adam Wolf (Oakville, Ontario/Everest Academy), and
Dawson Tait (Ottawa, Ontario/Mother Teresa) scored for RIT.
Commandant and Wolf scored their first collegiate goals, while
Pent Eistrat (Toronto, Ontario/Humberside Collegiate),
Andrew Doktor (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) and
Connor Pupp (Calgary, Alberta/Lord Beaverbrook) tallied their first assists as a Tiger.
Nate Farrell (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) was perfect from the "X", winning all 14 of his face-offs and had 13 ground balls.
Jimmy Spillane (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) and
Matt Pogue (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Paul Secondary) each won four face-offs.
Eli Salama (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best) and
Ben Tackett (Butler, PA/The Kiski School) each caused two turnovers.
Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) got the win in net, making seven saves.
Holden McDonald (Toronto, Ontatrio/St. Mary Catholic),
Drew Hutchison (Otonabee, Ontario/The Hill Academy) and
John Kuzmeski (Hadley, MA/Suffield Academy) all saw time in goal. Hutchison made four saves.
Joe Hawley scored twice for Springfield College, while Duncan Preston had a goal and two assists. Jake Reynolds took the loss in net, making 12 saves.
RIT led 3-1 after the first quarter, but exploded for 12 goals in the second quarter to lead 15-1 at the half. The Tigers tacked on five goals in the third quarter, and three more in the fourth for the 23-7 final.
The Tigers are now 2-0 all-time against Springfield.
RIT opens Liberty League play on Saturday, March 10 when the Tigers host Clarkson University at 2 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
