No. 1 men's lacrosse opens Liberty League play with decisive win over Clarkson

Kyle Killen scores career-high nine goals in the victory

ROCHESTER, NY – Kyle Killen (Peterborough, Ontario/Crestwood Secondary) scored a career-high nine goals to lead the No. 1 RIT men's lacrosse team (4-0, 1-0 Liberty League) to an 18-7 win over Clarkson University (2-1, 1-1 Liberty League) in the Liberty League opener for both schools at chilly RIT Turf Field on Saturday afternoon.
 
Killen set aRIT single-game program record by scoring six of his nine goals with the man-up, as he tallied twice in the opening quarter, twice in the second, three times in the third and two more in the fourth. Killen only needed 12 total shots, including 11 on goal to hit the back of the net nine times in his career day.
 
Shawn Nally (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) was a big contributor in RIT's offensive outburst, recording five points on two goals and three assists. Ryan Tandy (Montrose, NY/Hendrick-Hudson) had a goal and three assists, while Ryan Barnable (Whitby, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) dished out three assists and Aidan Milburn (Vancouver, British Columbia/Sentinel Secondary) tallied a goal and two helpers. Eli Salama (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best) and Beau Riley (Homer, NY/Homer) had a goal and an assist apiece, while Ben Tackett (Butler, PA/The Kiski School), Dawson Tait (Ottawa, Ontario/Mother Teresa) and Cameron Gebhardt (Fairport, NY/Fairport) also scored. Gebhardt's goal was the first of his collegiate career.
 
Nate Farrell (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) was dominant in the face-off "X" for the second straight game, winning 15-of-17 draws to go along with seven ground balls. Tackett added five ground balls, while Matt Pogue (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Paul Secondary) had four. Alex Maruna (Medina, OH/St. Ignatius), Salama and Joey Menecola (Toronto, Ontario/Michael Power Catholic) caused a pair of turnovers apiece.
 
Goalkeeper Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) earned his fourth straight win, stopping nine shots in the first three quarters of play. Holden McDonald (Toronto, Ontatrio/St. Mary Catholic) played the fourth quarter and made six saves.
 
Shane Kilday and Conor Bartlett led the Golden Knights with three points apiece, while Mark Uhlig and Pierce Currie added a goal and an assist each. Colin Holt took the loss in net, stopping six shots in the first half, while Kevin Dyckman made nine second half saves.
 
RIT held a 46-34 edge in shots and 48-34 advantage in ground balls. RIT won 18-of-28 face-offs and went 15-for-18 on clears. The Tigers man-up unit was incredible, scoring eight times on 10 chances. Clarkson was 2-for-7 with the man-up.
 
Milburn opened the scoring 1:10 into the game to give RIT the lead. Currie tied the game at 1-1 with 12:04 remaining in the opening quarter. From there, RIT scored 10 consecutive goals and held Clarkson scoreless for over 25 minutes to build an insurmountable edge.
 
RIT led 11-2 at halftime and 15-3 after three quarters before emptying the bench in the fourth quarter, as 40 different players saw action in the win.
 
RIT improved to 30-15 all-time against Clarkson.
 
RIT is back in action next Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 at the Mustang Classic hosted by Stevenson University. RIT will take on No. 19 Lynchburg College on Friday at 3 p.m. and No. 12 Amherst College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
