TROY, NY - The Women's lacrosse team (4-5, 2-2 Liberty League) fell to Rensselaer (5-2-1, 3-1 Liberty League) in an overtime thriller Saturday afternoon from Renwyck Field by a score of 13-12.
Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) scored a career high six goals and finished with one assist to lead the Tigers.
Erin Goodwin scored the lone overtime goal for the Engineers to give them the win. RIT rallied from six goals down in the first half to force overtime.
Colette Rigas (Marietta, NY/Marcellus) notched two goals, while
Meghan Donahue (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker),
Brooks Melnyk (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East),
Maegan Schmauder (Franklin, MA/Franklin) and
Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) each netted one goal.
Total shots attempted were 33-28 in favor of Rensselaer, while shots on goal were even at 20. RIT won 17 draw controls and were 17-18 on clears.
Paulina Goodermote (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) had the loss in net for RIT saving seven shots.
Rensselaer was 19-21 on clears and won 11 draw controls. Maddy Aslansan led the Engineers with three goals and four others notched two goals each. Aleena MIlinski had the win in net for the Engineers with eight saves.
The Engineers came out on fire scoring seven goals in the first eleven minutes to take a 7-1 lead. RIT was able to net in four goals in the remainder of the first half and make it 9-5 going into halftime.
Morgan Doyle opened the scoring early in the second half to extend the Engineers lead to 10-5.A goal from Melnyk and two straight from Fallone would put the Tigers back with 20:19 left to play in the half.Rigas scored two consecutive tallies at 16:54 and 13:50 to bring RIT within one, 11-10.
Donahue tied it at 11-11 with 12:55 remaining in the half off an assist from Schmauder. Fallone then netted one in off an assist from Livecchi to give the Tigers their first lead of the game. Doyle scored her second of the game to tie 12-12 with 4:12 left to play in regulation.
The Tigers return to action Apr. 3 at 4 p.m. when they travel to Liberty League foe St. Lawrence University.
