Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (5-3) suffered a tough, 5-4 loss to Division II Roberts Wesleyan College (8-8) from the Gordon Field House Sunday afternoon.
In a back-and-forth affair, RIT took a 2-1 lead after the three doubles matches before Roberts won matches at second and third singles to go up 3-2. RIT would tie the match on two separate occasions before Bijsha Shrestha earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at sixth singles to clinch the match for the Redhawks.
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) won a pair of matches apiece for the Tigers. Ying partnered with
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) at first doubles to earn an 8-5 win. Ying won a stirring three-set match at first singles over Nthabi Mogopodi. Mogopodi won the first set 7-6 on a tiebreaker before Ying came roaring back to win the next two sets, 7-5 and 6-1.
Zablonski and
Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) earned an 8-1 victory at second doubles. Zablonski also won a three-set match at fourth singles over Marine Kennel. Zablonski won the opening set, 6-3 before Kennel won set two by the same score. Zablonski rolled to a 6-0 win in set three to earn the victory, improving to 13-2 in singles this season.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, March 31 with a non-conference contest against SUNY Oneonta from the Binghamton Tennis Center at 11:30 a.m.
