Women's lacrosse moves to 2-0 in conference play after 16-12 win over Skidmore

ROCHESTER, NY - The women's lacrosse team (4-3, 2-0 Liberty League) earned its second win in less than 24 hours, defeating Skidmore College (5-3, 1-2 Liberty League), 16-12 in a Liberty League match up Saturday afternoon from the RIT Turf Field. RIT scored seven unanswered goals late in the second to rally for the big victory.
 
Meghan Donahue (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), Coletta Rigas and Maegan Schmauder (Franklin, MA/Franklin) each netted three goals apiece. Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) had two goals and four assists, while Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) added two goals and three assists. Steph Darrell (East Norhtport, NY/St. Anthony's) added two goals for the Tigers, while Brooks Melnyk (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) also scored.
 
Shots were 30-24 in favor of RIT. The Tigers finished with 11 draw control wins and went 5-for-5 on free position shots. Goalkeeper Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) earned the win in net for RIT with five saves.
 
Emily Hirsch led Skidmore with four goals, while Shelby Boland and Cas Szwajkowski scored three goals apiece. The Thoroughbreds won 19 draw controls. Goalkeeper Caroline Kenlon had the loss in net with seven saves.
 
RIT took the lead out the gate with consecutive goals form Melnyk and Donahue within the first two minutes of the game. Two goals from Szwajkowski tied the game at 5-5 with 10:59 to go in the half. Livecchi and Schmauder tallied for RIT, regaining the 7-5 lead.  Schmauder and Szwajkowski traded goals late in the half to make it 8-6 RIT at halftime.
 
The Thoroughbred came out in the second half with authority, scoring four unanswered goals to take a 10-8 lead with 20:31 left to go in regulation. Darrell cut the Skidmore lead to 10-9 with 18:33 left, before Shelby Boland put Skidmore back up 11-9 with 15:44 left.
 
The Tigers would respond with seven unanswered goals. to make it 15-11 with 5:49 to go in the half. Schmauder made it 11-10 Skidmore with 15:03 left before setting up Fallone 1:41 later for the tying goal. Donahue would score consecutive goals 1:48 apart to give RIT the lead for good, 13-11 with just over 10 minutes left. Rigas and Schmauder ended the run with goals 56 apart left, giving RIT a 15-11 lead with 5:49 remaining.

Ana Boogaerts gave Skidmore a glimmer of hope, breaking the run with 3:15 left, cutting the RIT lead to 15-12. Darrell put the game away with her tally with 58 seconds left.

RIT now leads the all-time series between the two schools, 4-3.

RIT returns to action Wednesday March 28 at 4 p.m. when they travel Liberty League foe William Smith. The Herons are ranked 16th in Division III.
