EWING, NJ – It was a game of milestones and records Friday in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship. The RIT (22-6) women's basketball team won its first NCAA Tournament game in program history, defeating University of New England (23-6) 76-63 on the campus of The College of New Jersey. Senior
Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY/Scholars Academy) became RIT's all-time leading scorer with 1,474 career points.
RIT will face The College of New Jersey in the second round to be played on Saturday, March 3 at 5 p.m.

Amy Reed. "The team played hard and was aggressive. I am so happy and proud of this group and winning our first NCAA Tournament game."
RIT trailed 4-0 early in the first quarter, but came back, to take an 11-6 lead on a bucket by
Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) at the 4:50 mark of the quarter. Olsen completed the old-fashioned 3-point play to make it 12-6 Tigers. Glaz tallied 11 early points in the quarter, including three 3-pointers.
Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) drained a jumper at the foul line to give RIT a 19-9 lead with 1:51 to play in the quarter. She drained a shot off an assist from Lynch inside the last minute to make it a 21-11 lead. She scored eight points in the quarter, including a 3-pointer to give the Tigers a 24-13 lead at the break.
Sam MacDonald drained a 3-pointer early in the second quarter to cut the RIT lead to 26-20. The Nor'Easters opened the quarter on a 7-2 spurt. Glaz, who needed 13 points to break the all-time scoring record at the university, broke the record with her bucket 7:19 to play in the second quarter. She surpassed RIT Sports Hall of Famer Amie Banis, who had 1,466 points from 1997-2001.
"What an awesome accomplishment for Jess," said Reed. "She was huge for us early in the game. Her 3-pointers early got us going."
Ashley Coneys drained a 3-pointer for UNE to cut the Tigers lead to 28-23 midway through the quarter. Wolfe answered with a three-pointer at the 6:06 mark of the second to increase the Tigers lead to 31-23. RIT outscored UNE 6-2 over the final 4:38 of the half to lead 42-32 at the half.
Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) came off the bench to score four big points late in the quarter to help RIT build its lead.
RIT shot 48.5 percent from the floor on 16-of-33 shooting. Glaz led the Tigers with 16 points, while Okada chipped in eight points. Shaw led UNE with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Coneys tallied 11 points for the Nor'Easters.
UNE began the third quarter with a quick spurt, cutting the RIT lead to six points on a bucket by Jocelyn Chaput that made the score 44-38 early in the third quarter. Chaput drained a 3-pointer with a little over five minutes to play in the third to cut the Tigers lead to 47-44. Wolfe answered back for RIT, scoring on the Tigers next possession to increase the lead back to 49-44.
Okada converted an old-fashioned 3-point play to increase the Tigers lead to 56-47 at the 4:03 mark of the third quarter. She scored off a UNE turnover with three minutes to play to increase the Tigers lead to 58-48.
Abby Judd (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) scored three big points to help RIT increase its lead to 61-48 with 1:30 to play in the third.
Okada scored at the buzzer to give RIT a 66-52 lead heading into the final quarter. The Tigers outscored UNE 24-20 in the third quarter, shooting 60.0 percent from the floor. Okada scored 13 of RIT's 24 points in the quarter.
UNE tried to rally in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers made big buckets down the stretch to maintain their lead. Lynch scored with 2:18 to play to increase the RIT lead to 72-58.
RIT shot 45.0 percent from the floor on 27-of-60 shooting. The Tigers went 8-of-19 from beyond the arc, and made 14-of-19 from the foul line.
Okada led RIT with 24 points, while Glaz finished with 20 points.
Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) added 11 points, and
Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) led the Tigers with 10 rebounds.
"It was a total team effort tonight," said Reed. "We had significant contributions from everyone who played."
This is the second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament for RIT, and first win in the big dance. The Tigers have never faced The College of New Jersey.
