Women's lacrosse explodes for 20 goals to wrap up Florida trip with win over Wheaton

Emily Livecchi reaches 150 career goals and 200 points in the win

ENGLEWOOD, FL -- The RIT (2-2) women's lacrosse team wrapped up its Florida trip with a 20-12 win over Wheaton College (1-4) Wednesday evening. The Tigers trailed early, but scored six straight goals to end the first half and break the game open. Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) went over the 150-goal and 200-point plateau for her career in the win.

Livecchi led RIT with seven points on three goals and four assists. She now has 151 career goals and 205 points. Meghan Donahue (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) tallied five goals, while Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and Krystyna Sterio (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) each scored three goals. Brooks Melnyk (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) tallied two goals.

Shots were 25-19 in favor of RIT. The Tigers had 13 draw controls, went 8-for-8 on clearing attempts and 4-of-6 on free position attempts. Pauline Goodermote (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) picked up her first collegiate win in net, making six saves. Sterio won five draw controls.

Casey Kaplan amd Maggie Dymes each scored four goals for Wheaton, while Maddy Lahm tallied a pair of goals. Molly Witten took the loss in net, making two saves.

RIT took an early 2-0 lead on goals from Donahue and Fallone inside the first seven minutes of the game. Wheaton tied the game on a pair of goals from Kaplan. Sterio converted a free position attempt at the 20:18 mark to give RIT a 3-2 lead.

Trailing 4-3, Wheaton scored two straight, taking a 5-4 lead on a goal by Molly Covarrubias with 13:02 to play in the half. The Tigers went on a run, scoring six straight goals to break the game open. Livecchi and Sterio each scored a pair of goals, while Donahue and Brooks Melnyk (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) each scored. Dymes tacked on a goal with four seconds to play to cut the RIT lead to 10-6 at halftime.

Wheaton cut the RIT lead to 11-8 on consecutive goals early in the second half. Colette Rigas (Marietta, NY/Marcellus) sandwiched a pair of goals in between a Livecchi goal to increase the Tigers lead to 14-8 with 20:05 to play.

Donahue scored three of RIT's next six goals as RIT extended its lead to 20-10 on Melnyk's goal with 8:11 to play. Fallone, Melnyk and Katherine Cameron (Eldersburg, MD/Chapelgate Christian Academy) also scored late for the Tigers.

RIT opens Liberty League play on Saturday, March 17 when the Tigers face St. Lawrence University at 2 p.m. in Canton, N.Y.
