Women's lacrosse loses in Florida to No. 20 Bowdoin College

ENGLEWOOD, FL -- The RIT (1-2) women's lacrosse team lost 20-12 to No. 20 Bowdoin College (3-1) Tuesday evening in Englewood, Florida. Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) tallied six points and moves into third place all time in points and goals in program history. She now has 148 career goals and 198 points.

Shots were 37-27 in favor of Bowdoin. The Tigers grabbed 27 ground balls, won 10 draw controls and went 17-of-22 on clearing attempts. Livecchi led RIT with five goals and six points. Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) tallied two goals, while Colette Rigas (Marietta, NY/Marcellus), Maegan Schmauder (Franklin, MA/Franklin) and Kendall Jones (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) each had a goal and an assist.

Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) took the loss in net, making 11 saves. Schmauder, Savannah Clemens (Livonia, NY/Livonia) and Jordan Guerrieri (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) each caused two turnovers, while Guerrieri grabbed four ground balls.

Katherine Miller led the Polar Bears with five points on three goals and two assists. Hannah Hirschfeld tallied four goals, while three Polar Bears scored two goals apiece. Kayli Weiss got the win in net, making 14 saves.

Livecchi gave RIT an early lead, tallying the first goal of the game 47 seconds into the contest. Bowdoin countered with two straight goals before Livecchi tied the score at 2-2 on her free position goal a the 25:11 mark. Bowdoin answered with three straight goals, including two from Miller that gave the Polar Bears a 5-2 lead. Livecchi converted her second straight free position attempt with 21:14 remaining in the first half that cut the Bowdoin lead to 5-3.

Fallone scored off an assist from Schmauder with 18:27 to play that cut the lead to 6-4, but Bowdoin went on a five-goal run, taking an 11-4 lead on Kate Kelly's goal with 10:35 remaining in the half. Jones broke the scoring drought with her goal at 9:47, and Schmauder scored unassisted with 7:42 remaining to cut the lead to 11-6. The Polar Bears scored the final three goals of the half to lead 14-6 at the break.

RIT scored the first two goals of the second half. Brooks Melnyk (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) opened the second half scoring with her goal off an assist from Livecchi, and Livecchi scored her third free position goal of the game, cutting the Bowdoin lead to 14-7 with 21:10 remaining.

After a Bowdoin goal made it 15-7, consecutive goals from Fallone and Rigas pulled RIT to within five goals at 15-10 with 18:17 to play. Kara Finnerty scored two straight for Bowdoin, increasing the Polar Bears lead to 17-10 on her goal with 14:27 to play in the game.

Livecchi and Steph Darrell (East Norhtport, NY/St. Anthony's) scored late goals, but the Polar Bears tacked on two goals inside the last six minutes to make the final 20-12. For Darrell, it was her first collegiate goal.

RIT wraps up its Florida trip tomorrow when the Tigers face Wheaton College at 7:30 p.m.
