ENGLEWOOD, FL -- The RIT (1-1) women's lacrosse team notched its first win of 2018 with a 16-13 victory over Ramapo College (0-2) at Dever Park in Florida as art of the SpringFling Tournament. The Tigers scored four straight goals in the second half to break a tie and earn the win. Sophomore
Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) scored the game-winning goal with 8:13 to play in the second half.
Shots were 28-25 in favor of the Tigers, who held a slight 12-10 ground ball edge. RIT went 4-of-6 on free position attempts, and won 13 draw controls.
Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led the Tigers with seven points on five goals and two assists. Fallone tallied four goals, while
Kendall Jones (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) scored three goals. Maegen Schmauder tallied two goals, grabbed three ground balls and won five draw controls. Jones, Schmauder and Maddie Dillabaugh each caused two turnovers, and
Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) got the win in net, making seven saves.
Alyssa Tachon led Ramapo with four goals and five points. Gabi Davidson tallied three goals, while Ava Rinaldi scored two goals. Monica Bubello took the loss in net for Ramapo, making seven saves.
RIT scored the first three goals of the game, taking an early 3-0 lead on Livecchi's first goal of the game. Schmauder opened the scoring off an assist from Livecchi, while Fallone gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead on her goal off an assist from
Brooks Melnyk (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East).
Ramapo answered with a five-goal run. Nicole Jaskot tied the game with her goal at the 22:50 mark of the half, while Tachon gave the Roadrunners their first lead with 20:41 to play in the opening half.
Later in the half, Rinaldi gave Ramapo a 6-4 lead on her goal off an assist from Liana Chirichiello. The Tigers rattled off three straight, taking the lead back on Jones' goal with 1:30 remaining.
Krystyna Sterio (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored off an assist from Jones at 9:59 to cut the lead to 6-5, and Livecchi scored her second of the half that tied the score at 6-6.
Davidson opened the second-half scoring, tying the game at 7-7 on her goal 52 seconds into the half on a free position attempt.
Colette Rigas (Marietta, NY/Marcellus) gave RIT the lead back with her goal at 24:55. That began a run of three straight goals for the Tigers. Rigas, Fallone and Schmauder all scored to give RIT a 10-7 lead with a little over 18 minutes to play.
Goals from Tachon and Shannon Eagan at 16:32 and 15:45 cut the Tigers lead to 10-9, but a Livecchi conversion of a free position attempt at 13:44 gave RIT a slim 11-9 lead.
Colleen Manley tied the score at 11-11 with her goal off an assist from Tachon with 10:35 to play. The Tigers responded with another run. This time RIT tallied four straight goals, taking a 15-11 lead on Fallone's goal with 7:51 to play. Livecchi and Jones scored to give RIT a 13-11 lead, and Fallone tallied two straight, including the eventual game winner with 8:13 to play.
Late goals from Tachon and Rinaldi cut the RIT lead to 15-13, but a late goal by Livecchi sealed the win for the Tigers.
"We had to finish and play smart the last six minutes, and we did it," said RIT head coach
Jeff McGuigan.
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, March 13 when the Tigers face Bowdoin College at 7:30 p.m. in Englewood, Fla.
